The first official photo from the upcoming re-imagining of Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), aside from the poster which was revealed a little over a month ago at Comic Con, has been released. The new photo (pictured above) gives us our first glimpse of the actual movie, a scene where the new Freddy Krueger (Jakie Earle Haley) scrapes his razor-sharp claws across what appears to be a burned down classroom's chalkboard.

If you remember the original ANOES series, Freddy is a burn victim (those ain't acne scars he's sporting), so perhaps that's what this pic is about.

The pic actually looks legit, Haley has the right body frame and demeanor it seems to carry the weight of the Krug.

He does look very much like Freddy. But if the blackboard is burned, would it really make an effective squeaky noise?

That's a good question. I'm guessing this is a dream sequence rather than what's happening in real time. Wasn't Fred Krueger originally burned in his boiler room? I can't remember.
