Covina, California. At 11:30pm on Christmas Eve, a man dressed as Santa Clause rang the door bell of a house, where 25 or so people were gathered for a holiday party. An 8 year old girl answered the door, and the man shot the girl in the face at point blank range with a semi-automatic 9 mm gun. He then went inside the house, plucking off guests one by one until a total of 9 people were shot to death.

For Someone Who Loves the Movie Silent Night, Deadly Night - This Story is Pretty Damn Sad!

The madness did not end there. The man, recently identified as Bruce Jeffrey Pardo (a church usher of all things), would spray with house with a vaporized racing fuel (a homemade napalm concoction), where the house instantly went up in flames. The bodies, which included Pardo's ex-wife Sylvia Ortega and her parents, were charred beyond recognition. In fact, so explosive was the chemical reaction that Pardo's Santa suit melted onto his body. His plans of fleeing to Canada with $17,000 were cut short by his injury, and he instead fled to his brother's house where he shot himself dead.

Turns out Pardo's scheme was a result of his life utterly unwinding. His divorce was finalized a week prior, ordering him to pay out $10,000 and to relinquish the family dog. He had recently been laid off by a military defense supplier, unable to find work anywhere. So downtrodden was the man that he decided to resort to some unthinkable act of vindication on his ex-wife, who he begrudgingly claimed paid no rent while living with her parents, while he himself struggled to pay support. Sylvia Ortega is survived by her three children from a separate relationship. Pardo by his sole son. You can read the entire thread HERE .

man that is in really poor taste. Shame on you. Posting the story is one thing but the picture is too much. You guys are some sick fucks. That just happend, it isn't quirky or strange like your other posts. This is a tragedy, not to be made light of. There's enough jerks in the world with no heart. I'm totally disgusted by this post. That poor family. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you? Posting this with that picture is appalling. You guys are sick sick sick.

I don't think there's anything offensive about Bather's post. I mean, he's pretty sensitive to the fact that this is a complete tragedy. No one is making light of this.

This Pardo fucker more than likely saw Silent Night Deadly Night and got the idea to commit this act, so I think the image from the movie is granted.

Giant Clank

they made it clear that they found this awful... and the pic was just to amplify the subtitle.

Blood_Bather

Yeah, I debated whether or not to ad the pic, I thought it was pretty tasteless as well. But the alternative was to, like most other publications covering the story, post a picture of Pardo's mugshot or headshot. To me, that is more disconcerting, looking right into the printed eyes of this awful man. Also, by posting a picture of Pardo himself, it some how crystalizes his moment in time, in effect letting him live on (why give the sicko the satisfaction of placing an identity on him that can be remembered past the incident). Maybe it doesn't make sense to you, but somehow I did not want to humanize this sicko wack job.

Furthermore, I thought about posting a regular picture of Santa Clause instead, but soon realized that any image of him in correspondence with this story would be eerily cruel. Even thought about no picture at all, but aside from the aesthetic bore it resulted in, no image or absence of an image can excuse or mitigate the evil this man acted in. Nor would it have any bearing on incidents like it that will no doubt occur in the future. Unnecessary? Probably. Insensitive? Not necessarily.

If you are really that bothered by it Uncouth, or if another person takes umbrage with it, we'll be happy to take it down/replace it. Nothing but love, yo!

I don't see how it's any worse than "Man Vomits Up Poison, His Fumes Infect Over 50 People." My favorite.

It might have been better to use a different image from the film rather than one that showed the killer Santa with a victim. I was pretty shocked when I saw it; for a split-second I thought it was an actual photo of the crime until I realized that was impossible. I understand where you are coming from with your reasoning though, Bather.

This story is awful. I was traveling when it broke so I didn't read the details on the major news sites, just saw the headline. I assumed the guy had just killed a couple of people at a mall or something. This is so much more horrifying than I could have imagined. Which would have been horrible, too, but... an 8-year-old girl answered the door. Napalming the house. Jesus christ.

Giant Clank

this may seem weird, but I feel bad for the guy. He was clearly unstable and was sent over the edge at Christmas... he just wanted to bring down everyone with him (a natural part of the grieving process) but that was amplified by his mental condition.
