Sure, splatter movies like Hostel and The Hills Have Eyes are loaded with gore, but what about the rest of the genres of film? Join OMGHorror.com as we go over the 12 grisliest scenes not from horror movies! [Videos included]

#12: Irreversible
To quote John Goodman from The Big Lebowski, "this is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass! (or at least attempt to)" In the controversial French film Irreversible, Pierre gets revenge on his friend's attacker by bludgeoning his face with a fire extinguisher over and over again, flattening his head into a gory pancake. Seeing this scene still sends shivers down our spines.

#11: Fight Club
In a brutal scene from Fight Club, Edward Norton as The Narrator pulverizes the face of Angel Face (played by Jared Leto) into a bloody pulp while thinking "I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn't screw to save its species. I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all the French beaches I'd never see." What makes this part of the movie a bit hard to stomach are the various wet crunching noises and splatters.

#10: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Ah yes, who can forget the nasty surprise the Nazis get when they open the Ark of the Covenant? After popping the lid off the Ark, the German footsoldiers get deep fried in holy electricity. But no one gets it worse than the beady-eyed Gestapo agent Toht who melts like a stick of butter in a microwave.

#9: A History of Violence
When New York mobsters pay Tom McKenna a visit, he acts fast to protect his family, and the first gangster to get taken down gets the worst of his wrath as his nose is repeatedly bashed into his skull. And that's after the man's arm is snapped in half and throat punched. Watch the clip for the full massacre.

#8: Passion of the Christ
Arguably more horrifying to the religious viewer, there's no denying that torturous crucifixion of Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson's film is intense no matter what your religious beliefs are. And though the entire film could be accurately described as extremely graphic, one scene seems to stand out just a bit more on the gore meter and that's when J.C. is speared in the chest, which causes him to juice out a profusion of blood.

#7: Hot Fuzz
You wouldn't think that one of the funniest comedies in the last couple of years would also contain one of the bloodiest scenes in a non-horror film, but it does. In Hot Fuzz, the film's killer loosens a church's huge cement steeple, which plummets to the ground and lands directly on the head of a journalist down below, splattering his head like a soggy pumpkin.

#6: Full Metal Jacket
This scene from Stanley Kubrick's 1987 film about the Vietnam War demonstrates what happens when you push the fat kid just a bit too far. After being beaten in the middle of the night with pillow cases filled with bars of soap, Private Pyle executes himself by wrapping his lips around his rifle and spraying the bathroom wall with his brains and skull fragments. Full Metal Jacket may be over 20 years old, but it still remains one of the most shockingly realistic suicides on film.

#5: Saving Private Ryan
How could we put together a list of exceptionally gory moments from non-horror films without including the famously grisly Omaha Beach scene from Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan? While storming the beach, soldiers get ripped to shreds, become engulfed in flames, and explode and the Nazis unleash hell on them. The most gruesome part of this scene is when a soldier cries out for his "mommy" as his greasy-looking entrails are literally spilling out of his abdomen.

#4:Taegukgi
It's hard to say what's the goriest moment in particular from this exceptional South Korean film about the Korean War. Taegukgi is more or less 150 minutes straight of grisly realistic violence, so instead of picking a specific scene we'll just leave you with this clip of blood-stained highlights.

#3: Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky
The comically gruesome Hong Kong action flick Riki-Oh is another film on this list where it's pretty difficult to narrow down a single gut-wrenching scene. For those who haven't experienced Riki-Oh for themselves, enjoy the following clip which contains all the gory highlights from the 1991 film.

#2: Robocop
After ramming his truck into a vat full of flesh-melting toxic sludge, one of the random thugs out to get Robocop becomes drenched in the deadly stew, causing his body to twist and malform into a hideous thing remarkably still capable of walking. As if the scene wasn't gross enough, the man moans in agony as he's turning into jelly only to be shattered like a water balloon filled with warm mayonnaise when a car slams into his liquefying body.

#1: Rambo
2008's Rambo ends with an unbelievable bloodbath where Stallone goes on a rampage with a 50 caliber machine gun, transforming an entire army of guerilla soldiers into ground beef. For over five minutes, Rambo puts his enemies through a blender of bullets, making for a finale that's actually gorier than what you'd find in most horror movies.

Very solid list EoE, well done. I've got to go with Gomer Pyle in Full Metal Jacket, still don't know how the hell they pulled that one off. Also, the gore in A History of Violence is very impressive - typical Cronenberg.

reaper17

Another Cronenberg that could have been listed is the opening scene from eastern promises.

Dude, last king of Scotland turned into a horror film at the end. Its so nasty when they hang him up at the airport, but it definitely doesn't top when you see Amin's dead wife with her limbs rearranged. It was so unexpected.

Kubrick

I think the scene when Lou beats the crap out of Tlyer and he bleeds all over his face is gorier.

Eater_of_Entrails

The Fight Club scene you mention Kubrick is also pretty damn grizzly. Nice avatar. My all-time favorite movie is A Clockwork Orange.

killatron

Rikki-oh is an awesome movie. I heard about when they were playing clips of it inbetween bands at a GWAR show

Dragula515

after watching all of them up to Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky, I can honestly say I feel SICK

KouAidou

Man, the head-smashing scene in Hot Fuzz is so crazy-awesome-- a definite case of comedy and shocks going hand-in-hand.

The second best (worst?) scene in that movie is when Timothy Dalton takes it through the palate on the model church. I guess it's not technically gory but it's painful as hell to watch, not to mention hilarious.
