If you've never seen Ruggero Deodato's infamous exploitation horror film Cannibal Holocaust, it's regarded, even to this day, as one of the controversial movies ever made, horror or otherwise. So contentious was the film, which features a woman being savagely raped with a big pointy rock, a real giant turtle being gutted (along with a slew of other animals actually being slaughtered) and many other memorable scenes, that when it was released in 1980 the director was arrested because authorities believed that the film's numerous atrocities were authentic. If you're a fan of horror, you really owe it to yourself to see Cannibal Holocaust so you can catch up for the sequel which has just been announced. That's right--Cannibal-fucking-Holocaust 2 (officially titled "Ruggero Deadato's Cannibals") is one the way
Someone pinch me because I must be dreaming.
News of Cannibal Holocaust 2 originally broke when Deodato was on the set of Hostel: Part II for his cameo as the cannibal who is briefly shown in one of the torture rooms slicing a hunk of leg flesh off a victim for his dinner. Although the details about the upcoming horror sequel are scarce at the moment, there are a couple of things we know so far:
- Imagination Films (Kaw, Decoys, The Hamiltons, The Zombie Diaries) is releasing the movie.
- Ruggero Deadato has stated that absolutely no animal killings will occur in the new film.
- As the film's poster implies, the vast majority of the film will not take place in a jungle but in a metropolitan area.
- Pierre David, who produced The Brood, Videodrome, Wishmaster, The Dentist, and numerous other horror projects is set as executive producer for the film.
- Cannibals is slated for release in 2009.
