We're not going to spray you with bullshit--in truth, there's not a massive amount of information available about Evil Dead IV and The Evil Dead remake, but there is some, and rather than trying to sift through the numerous forum threads, interviews, and news posts yourself, we've compiled everything you need to know about the two projects.

The Evil Dead (2009)

  • A remake of the first film in the tremendously popular Evil Dead trilogy was announced several years ago, and ever since, those involved in the new project (including director Sam Raimi himself) have issued fairly ambiguous answers on whether or not The Evil Dead remake is still on. It's more than likely that the new film is still coming and has just been put on hold.

  • Ash, the protagonist from the original trilogy (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness), will not be in the remake--Bruce Campbell (the actor who played Ash), might appear in the film.

  • The new movie will retain the original film's basic premise of a group of teenagers stumbling upon an ancient book with the power to raise the dead while staying in a cabin in the middle of the woods.

  • The Necronomicon (the book of the dead), the cabin in the woods, and demons are currently the only returning elements from the original films

  • Although Sam Raimi will be writing the screenplay, this is the first movie in the franchise he will not be directing.

  • Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert are set as producers for the film.

  • The cabin from the original film will not be used due to the fact that it burned down.

  • Even though the film is listed as being scheduled for 2009 release, judging from the lack of any substantial updates on the progress of the film, we're guessing the actual release is closer to 2010 or later.

  • Evil Dead IV

  • Unlike The Evil Dead remake above, this film is a sequel to the previous three, likely picking up where Army of Darkness left off (it's rumored that the title may even be Army of Darkness II).

  • Being that Evil Dead IV is a continuation of the previous Evil Dead trilogy, the film will not be made unless original actor Bruce Campbell is on board.

  • While you will have to wait a while for both the fourth Evil Dead and the remake, Bruce Campbell is starring in a movie titled My Name is Bruce where he plays a character roughly based on himself who is mistaken for an Ash-like character. Props to killatron for reminding us about this film that Evil Dead fans will eat up. Watch the trailer below.

i LOVE the Evil Dead, it would be fantastic if they actually came out with a fourth. Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite actors

Same here dreedjr. The Evil Dead series is just too badass to end after three films. Luckily we have more Evil Dead goodness on the way.

Ok I am failing to understand, and correct me if I am wrong, how they will make a REMAKE without the character Ash, and is it even worth it?

Fucking awesome. I've never seen a full-fledged preview on the upcoming Evil Dead stuff. Makes a lot of sense. Keep it up!

That's a good question. It'd be a hard sell if they don't have some sort of a hero type.

I'm not sure about the remake but you know it will happen sooner or later, considering the amount being made right now. Hopefully with Raimi involved it will be good. But I am definitely excited for anything that Bruce Campbell does, be it a new evil dead sequel or a bubba ho-tep sequel or something new and awesome!

Mixed emotions at best on this end. Why potentially tarnish an untouchable horror trilogy? Without Raimi behind the camera and Bruce in front of it, it's hard to imagine anything on par with the quality of the first 3 flicks. But will I see it? OF COURSE! Shit, after sitting through Dead Silence, I'll watch anything.
